Toyota currently offers three variants in the Fortuner, a two wheel drive basic, two-wheel drive automatic transmission and a manual four wheel drive top end variant. All these variants have the same 3.0 liter turbo engine giving 168 bhp. Company is all set to add a 2.5 liter version to the current line up of the Fortuner. This version will be available in automatic transmission variant with all wheel drive feature for the top end model.
2.5 liter Fortuner will churn max power of 142 bhp and is expected to be priced around Rs 20.82 lakh, Rs 1 lakh cheaper then the current 3.0 liter base model having two wheel drive and a manual transmission. Toyota will be launching this variant just to attract buyers who are looking for a cheaper version of the Fortuner to experience the SUV’s drive quality. Toyota does not expect the car to do well in the market. However, a 3.0 liter turbo diesel variant with automatic transmission is what the company is planning to launch to turn heads of the customer giving this variant the best seller tag in the future. This variant is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 24 lakh, 1 lakh more than the current top end model of a 3.0 liter turbo diesel with manual transmission.
Looking on the brighter side with a 1 lakh price difference between the 2.5 liter and the 3.0 liter models, the newer less powered model would be easy on some pockets giving a tad chance for more sell in the Indian market. Although the exact dates for the launch are not yet been disclosed there is a chance that the company would strategically launch this new smaller variant anytime before the convivial season.
