As we wait for the deliveries of the new City to start, the features list of the car was leaked a couple of days ago. This is very important for the new buyer as well the ones who have pre-booked the car to choose what they prefer. The date for the launch has been fixed to 7th January, 2014.
The new City will have 5 levels of trim: E, S, SV, V and VX in ascending order of features. Standard safety features in all 5 variants of the City diesel include ABS, EBD and a driver airbag. The top three variants get an additional front passenger airbag.
The much talked about touch screen-controlled automatic AC is available only on the SV, V and VX models while the other two will get a conventional, manual system. Rear AC vents are also available only for the top three models. We hoped Honda would provide this across all the variants but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
Only the base E model will miss out on Steering mounted controls. The top V and VX models have the 8-speaker (6 speakers’ and 2-tweeters) audio system interfaced with the 5-inch monitor. Honda has brought back CD functionality to these variants as well as AUX-in, USB, FM & MP3 and Bluetooth. The S and SV variants will feature a 4 speaker inbuilt audio system which will have all of the above but will miss out on a CD player.
The reverse camera is only offered in the top 2 models and the SV, V and VX will have cruise control. The SV, V and VX will also get rear seat armrests. What distinguishes the V from the top-spec VX, are the following features: Sunroof, Leather upholstery, Smart key, Pinch guard and Push button start.
This is the first time that the City is going to be offered with a diesel engine. Honda aspires to reclaim the no 1 slot in the upper C segment of Indian car market. The diesel engine will give Honda something to brag about: India`s most fuel efficient car with 26kmpl under standard test conditions.
The only thing which remains is the prices, which will only be revealed on the 7th of January, 2014. If Honda has done its homework properly and planned the prices accordingly, it does have a sure fire hit on its hands.
