Few days ago on 25th November, Honda showcased its 4th generation Honda City. The car may not look much different from outside than its predecessor but it has got a complete makeover from inside and at the heart of the car, the engine. 2014 Honda City will now come with 1.5 liter i-DTEC engine and 1.5 liter i-VTEC engines.
The 1.5 liter i-VTECH engine is mated to 5 speed manual transmission and Honda will also offer a 5 speed automatic unit on petrol engine. For 1.5 liter i-DTEC engine, Honda have not revealed power and torque figures yet. Since its was a global unveil, Honda has already started accepting bookings for 2014 Honda City and this car will be launched in 2014 Auto Expo.
Honda dealers have started bookings and maximum bookings are for 1.5 i-DTEC engine. A tweet from the Editor of AutocarIndia, Mr Hormazd Sorabjee, says that power and torque figures for 1.5 i-DTEC will be identical i.e. 98 bhp and 200 Nm and there will be fine tunning of ECU to get maximum efficiency rather than performance.
Considering the fact that for the same diesel motor with FGT (Fixed Geometry Turbocharger) the City engine is mated to 6 speed transmission, there will be surely a different driving experience as last 3 gears will be overdrive. (Overdrive is when engine runs at lower speed than vehicle speed, when gear ratio is less than 1.) The diesel motor is same and car is bigger than Honda Amaze. Honda City will have same power and torque figures as Honda Amaze but different power delivery with fine tunning of ECU for better fuel economy for its size. Don’t be surprised to see ARAI certified fuel economy figure of 2014 Honda City more than 20kmpl.
2014 Honda City is based on Jazz platform. The car gets all new touch screen infotainment system, climate controls, double barrel headlamps, rear fog lamps, sunroof and rear AC vets and total four 12V sockets. Other features and models will be detailed after launch of Honda City in Jan 2014.
