Jaguar has commenced bookings of their flagship, the 2014 XJ in India. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in June 2014, and customers can reserve their vehicles at a booking price of Rs. 5,00,000/- (Five Lacs Only).
At the Auto Expo 2014, Jaguar announced that the 2014 XJ will be locally assembled in India, at their JLR facility in Pune. Prices of the 2014 XJ are hence speculated to be lower than the current version. However, this can be confirmed only after its official commercial launch in June.
The XJ will be available in two engine options:
1) Petrol 2.0 Liter, 4 cylinder, 240 PS @ 5,500 rpm, 340 Nm @ 1,750 rpm, with an 8 speed automatic gearbox transmitting power to the rear wheels, and is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/hr in 7.5 sec. and a top speed of 241 km/hr.
2) Turbocharged Diesel 3.0 Liter, 275 PS @ 4,400 rpm, 600 Nm @ 2000 rpm, with an 8 speed automatic gearbox transmitting power to the rear wheels, and is capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/hr in 6.4 sec. and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/hr.
The refreshed XJ has a tough job at hand, competing with the current benchmark, the new S Class. While the current XJ trumped the previous-gen S Class in terms of looks and sheer road presence, the new S Class is in a different league of its own. Also in the segment, Audi will also soon launch their 2014 A8, and BMW has their 7 series, which is due for a major upgrade in 2015.
This is the first facelift for the XJ range in India (which thankfully, is only available in the LWB (Long WheelBase) form in India). With Jaguar’s strong commitment to the Indian market, we hope that this works towards increasing their share in the luxury car market.
