We have been seeing the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze testing for quite a few times now. But this time the car was caught undisguised at a factory lot in China.
The new car will now get a different split grille, DRLs and overall has a more aggressive stance than before. The headlights are slimmer and meaner and get some chrome garnishing for a more upmarket feel, they look like they have been adapted from the Renault Fluence. A crease which starts on the bonnet integrates nicely in the A-pillar while another crease moves along the side of the car from the headlights to the rear door handles. At the rear, the taillamps also turn sharper with an additional brake light strip just above the logo.
The car will have a shorter wheelbase than the present version but will not compromise on interior space and comfort.
Inside, the center console is neatly integrated into the leather covered dash with a large screen and new design AC vents beside it. The steering wheel has been redesigned and has buttons to control various functions.
Under the bonnet the Cruze will have two new engines: 1.4 liter turbo charged petrol and a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated petrol. The 1.4 will develop 148bhp and 235Nm and will be mated to a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic DSG gearbox. The 1.5 will belt out 112bhp and 146Nm and will be available with a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.
On the diesel front, the Cruze will feature the same engine as the present version but with some more power and higher efficiency. In India, we only get the diesel variant but with the next gen Cruze, expect one of the two petrol engines to be offered.
The car will be showcased at the upcoming Beijing Auto Show just before its China launch in the later half of 2014. We expect the car to roll onto Indian roads by early next year with prices starting at INR 13 lakhs.
