2016 Audi Q7 is 300 kg lighter than the existing model and the new SUV can do 0-100 km/hr in just 7.1 seconds.
The new 2016 Audi Q7 was launched in India yesterday at a starting price of INR 72 lakhs for the Q7 45 TDI premium plus variant and the Technology variant will cost INR 77.5 lakhs. Both the prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The second generation Q7 was launched in the presence of Indian cricketer Virat Kolhi and Ravi Shastri.
The exteriors of the new 2016 Audi Q7 has shredded some serious amount of bulk. The SUV now looks athletic compared to the extra bulk seen on the predecessor. The new SUV is based on the MLB 2 modular platform which makes extensive use of aluminium. This makes the car 300 kg lighter. The second generation of Audi’s flagship SUV is based on the company’s new design language. Other exterior features include the single piece hexagonal grille, Matrix LED headlamps, revised front and rear bumpers, new rear tail lamps, etc.
The interiors are the highlight of the update. The new 2016 Audi Q7 is equipped with a standalone MMI infotainment system accessible via a touch screen display. The new infotainment houses the Audi sound system, Audi Music Interface, a Bluetooth interface, two USB ports and an optional 12.3-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit. The safety features will now include a lot of driver assist features. The new SUV will come with different driver modes like comfort and off-road which will increase the ground clearance.
The new 2016 Audi Q7 will be powered by a 3.0-liter, V-6, TDI, diesel engine that is good to produce 245 HP and 600 NM of peak torque. This engine is mated on a 8-speed dual clutch Tiptronic automatic gearbox. The autobox will transfer power to all four wheels using Audi’s Quattro AWD system along with a Self-locking center differential. The new SUV can do 0-100 km/hr in just 7.1 seconds with a top speed of 234 km/hr.
The 2016 Audi Q7 will initially be brought into the country through the CKD route. However, local assembling of the SUV will start in mid 2016. The Q7 will directly rival other 7-seaters such as Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz GL and the BMW X5.
