Ever since the 2009 Geneva motor show, Aston Martin has been trying to revive the Lagonda brand name by introducing a new super saloon. Aston Martin had previewed a SUV by the name of Lagonda but received a lot of criticism for the move and have learnt their lesson. As the spy shots suggest, the Lagonda will be full length super saloon with four doors and a V12 engine.
Aston Martin`s famed Q department will build the Lagonda, which confirms a short production cycle. If reports are to be believed, the number is limited to a 100 units. You might remember the old angular and not-so-pretty Lagonda from a few decades ago when Aston wasn`t having the best time in the car market. This new version though lives up to the AM design language and can easily be termed beautiful. The car will use composite body panels to keep the weight down and increase on its sportiness appeal. Designers at Aston have worked overtime to make the car look sporty as well as luxurious at the same time.
Presently the only other four door car Aston has is the Rapide and the Lagonda will share a few bits with it. The monster of a 5.9 litre V12 engine which produces 600 bhp will be the highlight of the car. It will be mated to a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and not the six-speed box, like on the Rapide.
The Lagonda is no stranger to short production runs as the the company always wanted to keep the car exclusive and one of a kind. Aston Martin is thinking of possible collaborations with other car manufacturers for its future products to fill up each and every space of the luxury car segment.
Looking at the spy shots we can confirm the car is very close to production and the company will announce its plans for the Lagonda in the next couple of months.
