Team AutoColumn’s ScoopMeister is back again with a big scoop. This time it’s about new compact SUV from Renault. Renault India is planning to introduce Renault Capture in India. The Capture is a compact SUV from Renault which is also known as QM3 as Renault Samsung’s brand car in South Korea. The car will get underpinnings of the company’s hot selling SUV Duster and will get a body shell of Renault Capture. The whole idea behind this is to bring a product which will take less lead time to get into production version rather than developing a product from scratch. Renault Capture will be positioned below Duster and will compete with Ford EcoSport and Hyundai’s ix25 and will be positioned as a premium compact SUV.
Renault India’s plan is to capture the market, which is potential for Ford EcoSport and upcoming Hyundai’s ix25. The car is expected to get the underpinnings of Renault Duster with the same engine options. The Renault Capture is a mini-crossover manufactured by the French automaker Renault. The production version made its debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and started to be marketed in France during April 2013. The Capture concept was first shown at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
As Nissan Terrano was the last badge engineered product from the Renault Nissan group, it is clear that Capture will not share any badge engineering with Nissan’s upcoming products. The Renault Samsung’s QM3 is already a production version of Capture crossover. Renault India will have a complete advantage of having a production-ready interiors and underpinnings of the best selling SUV. Overall idea looks promising for Renault India but only time will tell when it comes to Indian soil in flesh. Renault India’s sales projections for Duster over coming quarters do not seem to have a strong growing number, hope this new compact SUV will bring Renault India in game again by 2016 with competition from Hyundai’s ix25 and face-lifted Ford EcoSport.
