BMW i8 is truly the most progressive sports car of twenty first century with agile performance and outstanding efficiency. After a year waiting finally Bavarian carmaker, BMW rolled out i8 on Indian streets, i8 is available at a price tag of 2.29 Cr (ex-showroom). God of cricket Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar himself unveiled new BMW i8 in an event in Mumbai. BMW i8 was first globally revealed at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show and in India last year during Delhi Auto Expo 2014. This is the second car in BMW i range after pure electric i3 hatchback. German car manufacturer introduced its sub brand ‘BMW i’ in Indian market with the launch of i8. The car is built on an eco-friendly platform and gets organic fibres and leather dyes. There is also lots of carbon-fibre in lots of places including the chassis. BMW i8 is designed with highest aesthetic standards and aerodynamics with BMW’s signature kidney grille at the front. The BMW i8 is available in four variants i.e. Ionic Silver with BMW i Blue accent, Protonic Blue with Frozen Grey metallic accent, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect with BMW i Blue accent and Crystal White Pearl Effect with BMW i Blue accent. The interior of the car gives a luxury look made using fine leather and chrome plastic with a futuristic design of colour changing light pattern on the dashboard, a digital driver cockpit and head up display depicting all vital information. The driver is allowed to select different modes which include Sport, Comfort and Eco Pro depending on driving conditions included in order to enhance driving pleasure.

It is powered by futuristic A twin-scroll turbo 231PS 3-cylinder 1.5 liter petrol engine turbocharged unit and electric motor which in combination capable of generating 360 bhp peak power and 570 Nm peak torque. There is also the 131PS (96kW) electric motor which drives the front wheels. According to the company it can sprint 0 to 100 in just 4.4 seconds, with a top speed of 250 kmph. The company also said that fuel efficiency of 20kmpl is possible.The electric motor comprises of a 2 speed gearbox sending power to the front wheels while the rear wheels are mated to a 6 speed gearbox. The electric motor derives power from a Li-ion battery pack which can be charged from a power socket installed at home. Another impressive characteristic is a record low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, at an average of 47.45 km/l and emission of 50.36 g/km. The BMW i8 is available at BMW i dealerships in Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai as a CBU (Completely Built-Up) unit from today onwards.
