Good news on a Sunday. BMW will take a roll on today and will keep it going forward till the launch of its X2 joining the family soon.
A second confirmation that the new BMW X2 will launch in 2017 comes from UK magazine Autocar. The BMW X2’s first road-going prototypes will begin testing this month, ahead of its market launch in the second half of 2017.
Conceived along the lines of the forthcoming X4 and second-generation X6, the X2 is described as a more sporting variant of the new X1, with which it will share its platform, engines and interior fittings.
Positioned between the X1 and X3, the 5-door lift back will look similar to the X6 and X4. Hence expect a coupe-like silhouette, large kidney grille, and sleek headlamps to underline its sportive intent.
The BMW X2 will be based on the same platform as the all-new 2016 BMW X1 the front-wheel drive UKL platform, and will be previewed by a concept car in early 2016, perhaps at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
While the new F48 X1 will lose some inches in size, the X2, while sportier looking, it will also offer more interior space. The X2 will sport a lower roof line and a side profile that makes it attractive to a younger demographic.
The X2 will not only share the underpinnings with the F48 X1, but also the same power plants so expect a range of turbocharged three-cylinder and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. They range in capacity from 1.5 to 2.0 liters. Customers will have a choice between a standard six-speed manual and an optional eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Upcoming 2017 BMW X2 crossover will run against the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
