Tata motors have been pretty dormant the past few years. With the Indica being the only B- segment car available, ( and that with the tag”taxi car”), Tata sales have dropped drastically in this segment. Springing back from the doledrums Tata is all set to launch the Tata Zest and the Tata Bolt late this year.
There are rumors about Tata Motors developing a small car. This project is named “Kite” (code-word for Tata’s small car project). In an exclusive video footage captured by 4wheelreviews, the Tata Kite was spotted conducting its on-road test runs.
Said to be based on the newly developed Tata XO platform, the Kite will be bigger than the Tata Nano but smaller than the Tata Bolt. The Kite may be powered by a 900 cc , 3-cylinder ,1.2T Revotron engine, which is to be used in the Bolt and the Zest models. The Kite may be based on the XO platform, but the exterior ,interior and mechanicals such as the suspension and technological features will be re-fabricated, keeping in mind the Indian customer, who always wants more for less.
Tata might showcase the Kite in 2015, which will be priced approximately between 2.8 lakhs- 4.5 lakhs. With high expectations from Tata Motors, one will wait and watch whether Tata’s small car the Kite, can withstand competition from the Hundai i10, Ford Fiego and the Maruti Suzuki Celerio in its class range.
