The General Motor Car with India’s smallest diesel engine of 1 litre can soon get a plastic surgery and a rebirth. Yes, the hatch Chevrolet Beat was recently spotted with camouflages, which surely indicate some changes and testing with the changes of the car.
Two of its spy shots are out from Pune while it was being tested. The major changes are there in the front and rear of the car. Changes include an updated front bumper, a new grille which may resemble their earlier car Spark to some extent and fog lamps. Right below the bonnet, lays a new & huge brand logo of Chevrolet. Rear spoiler has been refurbished with number plate notch going a little downwards. The alloys will be new and the headlamps are more curvaceous and wrap-around type. Interior wise, car is getting a new center console with more storage capacity and a new trim along with rear central headrest.
Mechanically the car will remain same. The car will have 4 cylinder 16 valves DOHC petrol engine offering a displacement of 1199 cc. The max power and max torque figures will be 79 bhp and 108 Nm respectively. The engine is complaint of Euro-IV and will have 5-speed manual transmission although its American counterparts will have 4-speed automatic transmission. Coming to the most important aspect of a hatchback i.e. fuel economy – it is estimated to be 18.6 kmpl (ARAI Tested) for the petrol version while Chevrolet Beat Diesel is a 936 cc motor with a turbocharger. The power and torque ratings of this fuel efficient engine (close to 25.4kmpl) are 57.7 bhp and 150 Nm which is attached to a smooth 5 speed manual gearbox.
We will see this car at Auto Expo which is going to take place between 7-11 February 2014 at Expo Centre, Greater Noida but there have been no comments on it from GM officials. The revamped Beat is expected to hit the market by mid 2014 with expected price of Rs 4.00-6.00 lakh. It will be facing competition from Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Tata Indica Vista, Ford Figo, Fiat Punto, Hyundai i10 and Nissan Micra Active.
