The rugged-looking Chevrolet Niva concept was unveiled at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show. The Niva concept was designed by GM-AvtoVAZ joint venture. The Niva concept is a close-to-production model for Chevrolet’s entry-level off-roader.
The new Chevrolet Niva concept is much beefier and modern-looking than its elder sibling. The Niva concept sports narrower headlamps, circular fog lamps on the lower bumper which also features a silver skid plate, hexagonal grille, bumper mounted winch, a snorkel, roof-mounded spot lights and a roof-carrier. The Niva concept also gets a massive suspension-lift along with killer off-road BF Goodrich mud-terrain tires which highlights the Niva’s off-road prowess.
Well, not much has been said about the interiors of the Niva concept, but one can see a three-spoke steering wheel, off-road gauges, a music system and AC controls on the center console and plenty of metallic trims.
Powering this little rugged beast might be a 1.8 liter, petrol engine, which is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The company has not revealed the power output as of now, but it may be able to produce 135 PS of power, which will be sent to all four wheels via a 4-wheel-drive (4WD) system with lockable differentials.
The Chevrolet Niva concept will be launched in Russia in 2016, but will General Motors bring it to India and pitch it against the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha? We will have to wait and see, what plans are in store for the future.
