The tables above show the three compact SUV with their variants and important specifications, so you can get a broader picture of what the three manufacturers have in store.

To further clarify what each compact SUV has to offer, we have done a general comparison between the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.

The style of a car creates the first impression. The Ford EcoSport has a sleek design paying attention to minor details, on the other hand the Duster has the same look since it was launched in 2010. The Nissan Terrano is our pick in styling because of its muscular front facade which gives it a macho look.

The Ford EcoSport sports a large dashboard with a strategically placed instrument console. The EcoSport comes with six-airbags, climate control, steering mounted audio controls, SYNC and button start. The Duster has a more rugged look to its interior and features a touchscreen display and steering mounted audio controls, unlike the pricier Terrano which surprisingly does not include these features.

Space wise the EcoSport looses out completely to the Terrano and Duster, who offer abundant room for the rear as well as the front passengers, along with a larger boot space.

This is where the crux of the comparison takes place. Talking about petrol the Ford EcoBoost is powered by an award winning 1.0 liter, petrol engine which produces 125 BHP of power and 170 Nm of torque. The EoBoost 1.0L engine is no match to the Duster’s 1.6L K4M engine and the Terrano’s 1.5L petrol engine. The EcoSport 1.5L, TiVCT petrol engine, is cheaper and better equipped than its rivals. So if you are looking for a petrol engine, then Ford EcoSport and EcoBoost should be your pick.

Coming to diesel engines, the Ford EcoSport comes with a 1.5L, TDCi, diesel engine, which produces 91PS of power and 204 Nm of torque. Compared to the base variants of the Duster’s 1.5L, dCi HP, engine and Terrano’s 1.5L , diesel engine, both producing 85 PS of power, the EcoSport gets the upper hand. But if one is hell bent on a diesel compact SUV and is willing to spend a little more for a high-end performance, than the 110 PS engine of the Duster and Terrano take the cake.

With the three Compact SUV’s going head to head, the choice seems tough. The Ford EcoSport on one hand, offers better features, killer performance based engines and its value for money, in comparison to the Duster and Terrano, which are bigger in size, better room and ride quality, it all boils down to one question, what do you need the car for?

Based on the comparison the Ford EcoSport seems to be our pick among the three compact SUV’s, because of its premium features, award winning engines and its affordability, which is cheaper compared to the Duster and Terrano.
