Honda a few days back had revealed some images that teased the new upgraded version of the Honda CB500F. The bike is the naked sibling of the Honda CBR500R. The Honda CB500F, CBR500R and the CB500X form a family of affordable entry-level bikes which according to Honda gives the feel of full size bikes. The updated version of the fully faired sibling CBR500R was launched earlier this year.
“As we near the end of our 2016 model year announcements, we’re pleased to release details on the improved CB500F,” says Lee Edmunds, Manager of Motorcycle Marketing Communications at American Honda. “The CB line has a proud history with Honda, and with sharp new styling, this fun, capable naked bike continues to be worthy of the name.”
The new Honda CB500F has undergone a number of cosmetic changes which include new standard LED headlamps, less fairing parts, new tailpiece with LED lights, golden highlight for crank case and cylinder heads and a shorter exhaust muffler which according to Honda will improve mass centralization and a better exhaust note. The new bike gets a bigger fuel tank that has capacity of 17-liter with a hinged cap. The new bike gets an externally adjustable spring preload telescopic forks. It now has split seats with an all new passenger seat.
Other improvements include adjustable front brake lever, die-cast passenger footpegs, transmission improvements and a new wave style ignition key. However, the new Honda CB500F will retain the same 471 cc parallel-twin, liquid cooled engine that produces 47.5 PS. This engine is mated on a 6-speed gearbox.
The changes don’t seem to be more in numbers. But, these upgrades by Honda have made an already good bike look better. The performance will be affected by the minor changes in suspension and most importantly the gear shift problem is upgraded. The hinged fuel tank cap will prove to be efficient as the earlier cap was a disaster to handle while filling up the tank. This proves that the Japanese manufacturer has kept in my mind the smallest areas where the earlier version lacked. Hence the new 2016 CB500F will be a very good bike to ride. The bike will start its sales most probably by February 2016. However, the bike is not expected to reach the Indian shores.
