Husqvarna has started its journey to make a come back in the streetbike segment. The company has introduced the Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 concept at EICMA 2015. The Swedish motorcycle manufacturer has for the first time even conceptualized a street naked bike in ages. This concept will be the first bike to suit the streets after the company launched a number off-roaders in these years. Husqvarna is an official statement said, “The VITPILEN 701 marks our return to street motorcycling and is the next step towards Husqvarna Motorcycles’ future vision.” The bike being an easy to ride yet exciting is expected to re establish the company’s name as a street bike producer as well.
The bike from 112-year old company getting back into the market by the support of KTM, the sister company, is very beautiful to look at. It easily catches your eye with the upright seating position and flat handle bars. The new bike draws inspiration from the Husqvarna Silverpilen, street bike of the early 50s combining it with modern technology, which makes the bike worth the wait. “Something fresh was long overdue in the motorcycling world, so we set out to create a bike that better captures the timeless thrill of the ride – with a level of simplicity that seems to have been lost amongst the flash, hype and hyperbole of modern motorcycle design,” the company said in the official statement.
Other designing features include the tail part with a single carbon monoque, mechanical footpegs, corona ring around the headlamp, beautifully designed straight-through exhaust. However, we are not sure if all of these will make it to the production version. The new Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 is expected to be powered by a single-cyliner, 4-stroke engine. It can also come with the same 690 cc single-cyliner engine that is good to produce 68 HP and 69 NM of torque used in the recently launched 701 Enduro and 701 Supermoto. It can also come with an ABS. All this taken into consideration, the bike seems to be a perfect combination of minimalistic design with premium bits.
However, the critic argue that the new Husqyy’s are KTM’s wearing fancy dress. But, looking at the design, I won’t mind if the new bike turns out to be a KTM from heart, that will make me even more excited for the bike.
The concept Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 is expected to go under production by mid 2017. However, the smaller Vitpilen 401 will hit the showrooms early next year accompanied by an even smaller Vitpilen 125. The possiblity of the new bike entering the Indian market seems high looking at the increasing popularity of the KTM’s.
