Ford has just done world premier of its new compact sedan based on Ford KA. The compact sedan is named as ‘Ford Concept’ and it will spawn the sub-4 meter market of Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze.
Ford Concept looks very close to renderings of compact sedan from Ford Ka. The car is a booted version of Ford Ka. The design of Ford Concept looks like a baby Ford Mondeo and its body lines are very much in accordance to the company’s new design philosophy. The new compact sedan from Ford uses same fiesta platform that also underpins current Figo hatch and Classic sedan. This will ensure part sharing from the same platform and it will also give cost benefits to the company.
The new compact sedan from Ford will share its front and underpinnings with new generation Figo just like part sharing between Swift and Swift Dzire, Brio and Amaze and freshly unveiled Zest and Bolt from Tata.
Overall length of the car will be less than 4 meters and that will give excise benefits to the company, this eventually will affect the final cost of the car. The compact sedan market is getting hot and it is evident from newly unveiled Tata Zest and upcoming Hyudai grand i10 based compact sedan.
Though the company did not reveal any information about engines, the compact sedan is likely to be powered by a 1.5 liter turbo-charged diesel engine that also powers Ford Fiesta sedan and the compact SUV Ford EcoSport. The petrol mill will be 1 liter eco-boost engine from Ford. Ford plans to localize the manufacturing of eco-boost engine under ‘One Manufacturing’. 5 speed manual gearbox with automatic transmission to petrol variant is expected on the latest best looking car from Ford. Ford Concept will have the best in class satellite navigation, infotainment options and a special slot to charge devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players and the best in class space as well.
