Ford India has recalled all the Ford EcoSport produced between November 2013 and April 2014 on Friday as some of these vehicles may have an issue regarding the Rear Twist Beam (RTB) bolt. Around 16,444 vehicles are affected. The company stated that the Rear Twist Beam bolt in some of these affected vehicles may not be tightened to specification. This may result in pivot bolt to break.
“Ford India is proactively contacting select customers to voluntarily inspect their EcoSport vehicles, made at the company’s Chennai plant between November 2013 and April 2014, for a potential concern related to Rear Twist Beam bolt,” Ford India said in a press release.
This issue can compromise vehicle handling and therefore the risk of an accident is increased. Though, no accident cases due to this issue are reported yet, Ford India has conducted this recall on a voluntary basis to prevent these potential threats.
The American automaker is contacting the owners of all the 16,444 Ford EcoSport vehicles to get their cars checked. Ford has also asked the distributors to rectify this problem free of cost. Ford had previously recalled 1,66,021 Figo and Fiesta (now known as Classic) cars in September 2013 to repair faulty Rear Twist Beam and Power Steering Hose.
Recall is no more a taboo in the Indian market. With the last recall from Ford, around 13.25 lakh vehicles are recalled by various automakers in India, according to RTI report.
