Ford Mustang Imported In India For testing; Launch By End Of 2015

Ford is having an impeccable year as of for now; Ask me why? Launches are queued for Ford. Besides all, they will have an iconic nameplate around them in this festive season (October-November).

An import-export website reveals that one unit of the new Ford Mustang has been imported into the country for testing purposes. The muscle car was imported in its GT Fastback avatar into Chennai where Ford India has a manufacturing facility.
While new models such as the Ford Figo Aspire and new Figo hatchback (also lined up for a launch this year) will add volumes, the Mustang will be a halo offering; a brand shaping tool to expand the marketing

The new Mustang, now in its sixth generation, made its premiere in December 2013. The Mustang which was imported is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine capable of 420 bhp and 528 Nm of torque paired to 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

The India-bound Ford Mustang model will go through many changes when compared to the global one. The most important one of those will the right-hand drive steering system, which has never happened before in the history of Mustang. The Indian version of the Mustang will also, for the first time, will have independent rear suspension. Interestingly, the Indian Mustang will power a 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine, which was last seen in the third-generation model of the car.

Compared to its predecessors, the new Mustang debuts an independent rear suspension, an all-new front perimeter sub frame and double-ball-joint McPherson struts. Also new on the pony car is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine which endows it 305 bhp and 406 Nm of torque.
The Mustang, when launched in India, will be imported through the CBU route from Dearborn, Michigan, U.S.A. While it doesn’t have a direct competitor in India as such, reports are rife that GM India, in due time, will launch the Camaro, the sixth generation which was unveiled last month.

Though the company hasn’t revealed the pricing details yet, we expect it to be priced around Rs. 50 lakh.
