Hero Electric, the electric vehicle division of Hero MotoCorp, launched the all new high-speed electric scooter “Photon” in New Delhi. Hero electric showcased the Photon at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and after getting a good response, Hero Electric decided to release the Photon before the upcoming festive season.
Priced at Rs 54,110 (ex-showroom Delhi) and with a top speed of 45km/h- fastest electric scooter in the Indian Market, one will need to have a valid license and an official RTO registration to ride the scooter, just like its petrol counterparts.
The Photon is powered by a 1,500 Watt DC motor, which is operated by a 24 Mhz electronic controller. The battery is a 33 AH/48 V AGM VLRA unit, accustomed to Indian conditions. The multi-stage intelligent charger has a built-in memory, which regulates the charge based on the battery’s condition and a circuit-breaker for added safety. The photon comes in two ride modes namely: Power mode- which allows the scooter to attain the top speed of 45 km/h with the charge lasting up to 50 km and the Economy mode- which allows the scooter to travel for about 80 km on a full charge.
Hero Electric has adopted a conventional design for the Photon, with a round headlight , broad seat and apron fitted turn indicators. While the styling may seem conventional, the features are pretty top of the class, with front disc breaks, anti-theft alarm and front telescopic suspension. The Photon is available in three color schemes: vanilla white, vivid burgundy and velvet black.
With petrol prices increasing day by day, the market for Electric scooters is soon to pick up speed. Hero Electric have set the ball rolling and we hope to see competition build up in this segment as well.
