The most anticipated MUV of 2014 is set to launch in India. Customers are waiting for this car’s launch and there is a good news for you, your wait is over. The never seen before attention that Mobilio has got has astonished the manufacturer and has confirmed that the car will be launching soon and you can book your Mobilio at Rs. 50,000 at nearest Honda dealer. Mobilio was showcased in the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and since then the car has lured attention. We expect the car to have a justified performance.
The car has said to rival the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova. However the Ertiga will have most of the competition when the Mobilio is launched. Moreover the RS model of the Mobilio which Honda is planning to launch will threaten the market for Innova as well.
Mobilio will have maximum cabin space with the implementation of ‘Man maximum, machine minimum’ philosophy. The front of the car is like the Brio and Amaze with some alterations in the front grille. The front bumper has a body coloured wing-like design while the center of the bumper is black. The RS has a different sporty feel altogether, there are many changes made a different sporty bumper, LED projector head-lights, a spoiler at the end of the roof, alloy wheels have a new design and the grille too has been changed. These features add to the sportiness of the Mobilio RS version and also give it a muscular look. A muscular line running from the front till the center of the rear door sets the designing apart. Even with a ground clearance of 189mm the car does not look too tall, Innova and Ertiga have a lower ground clearance than the Mobilio. A similar story repeats with the designing of the rear fender of the Mobilio. It is different in every way with a perfect combination of styling and dimensions.
The 1.5 litre i-Dtec engine in the diesel variants of the Mobilio can give a mileage of 24.2 Kmpl whereas the i-Vtec petrol will ride for 17.3 kms for every litre. Innova give a mileage of 13kmpl for diesel and 11.4 kmpl for its petrol engine and the Ertiga manages to give 20.8kmpl for diesel, 16 kmpl for petrol and 22.8 kmpl for a CNG. The 1.5 litre Diesels churns out 98bhp and 200 Nm of torque whereas the petrol engine has 145 Nm of torque and 117bhp. These engines will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission and Honda has not disclosed any plans to bring the CVT gear box in India.
The Mobilio is a 7 seater MUV which on full load pulls through fairly well though the car feels heavy initially. It has a boot space of 521-litres when the last row is folded for luggage space. But with all seats occupied the car can fit a small suitcase. With a sedan like chassis the drive is experienced to be smoother. The minimum turning radius is 5.2 meters for the petrol variant. However the diesel has a turning radius of 5.4 meters due to increased engine size and weight. The Ertiga has 5.2 meters while the Innova stands at 5.4 meters of turning radius.
Moving on to the safety features the Mobilio is made up of tensile steel which absorbs impact from any direction. The features like dual Air-bags and ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution are only available with the top end variant. There is news that dual air bags will be given to all the variants but this will be confirmed only on the launch day.
The Honda Mobilio is expected to be priced around Rs. 8 to 12 lakh which is a threat for Innova and Ertiga. The launch day will tell if the car will live up to all the brouhaha about it.
