Honeywell Turbo Technologies join hands with Tata Motors to develop their first ever turbocharged petrol engine- the 1.2 liter, Revotron engine, which features in the all new 2014 Tata Zest sedans.
The newly developed Revotron 1.2T engine, in the Tata Zest provides a better power output and torque along with first-in-its class multi-drive modes – Eco, Sport and City. The turbocharged petrol engine features Honeywell’s second-gen petrol turbo technology, which incorporates improvements and new developments in aerodynamics and bearing systems, which help in providing a 20% better fuel- efficiency along with an improved driving experience.
The downsized turbocharged petrol engine occupies 30% lesser space- lowering the cost and complexity of the engine, in order to provide the vehicle with more torque, compared to a non-turbocharged vehicle with the same power output.
Honeywell Turbo Technology’s engineering teams situated in Pune and Banglore, used local capabilities and global expertise in petrol turbo technologies to cater to the specific needs of the Indian customer. Also commenting on the issue, Milind Godbole, MD, Honeywell Turbo Technologies India said, “We are proud to have met the challenge and helped Tata launch its new petrol engine in the exciting new Zest also Honeywell has a strong presence in India and embraces its opportunity to contribute to the accelerating ‘Made in India’ campaign, which is significant to move the Indian auto industry forward, as a global player”.
We hope that joint ventures such as these, will help improve automotive technologies in India and pave a path for in-house mechanical developments in the automobile sector.
