Hyundai decided to make Genesis a stand alone brand last month with the first Genesis G90 launch scheduled for December. The company opened its pre-bookings for the flagship in its home market of Korea and received over 4,300 bookings in less than 24 hours.
The newly established luxury branch of Hyundai set to play the same role to the Korean automaker as Lexus is Toyota, Infiniti is to Nissan, and Acura is to Honda. Genesis G90 will follow a design language called ‘athletic elegance’ which will be used as a base to build on the six models the company plans to put on the road by 2020. The G90 features nice and clean lines with a large hexagonal radiator grille and the Genesis logo sitting atop. The logo, at first looks really similar to Aston Martin but is slightly different. The overall dimensions look larger than the current flagship Equus.
The Equus will later on be rebadged as the G80 to be followed by four other models to have six cars in the Genesis stable by year 2020. Genesis will currently sell through the Hyundai dealerships in Korea and across the world. It will have its global launch early next year. Genesis G90 will boast of a raft of world-best safety features and technological innovations to set itself apart in the luxury market according to the company.
Woong-Chul Yang, Head of Hyundai Motor R&D Center and Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor, said, “Genesis’ new large luxury sedan G90 will deliver a concept of ‘New Luxury’ to our customers. The G90 sits at the pinnacle of the Genesis brand and demonstrates how we apply our human-centered values to give our customer true satisfaction in every aspect of the vehicle ownership experience.”
