On the exterior, the ix25 carries forward Hyundai’s Fluidic Design like the Verna and the Elantra, and can be viewed as a smaller version of the SantaFe. The ix25 is 4.27 m long, 1.78 m wide and 1.63 m high with a wheelbase of 2.59 m, which translates into the fact that it will be a spacious 5 seater. Under the skin, it has the same engine line-up that is offered with the Verna i.e. a 1.6 litre diesel CRDi engine with 126 bhp and 265 Nm of torque, all of which is mated to a 6 Speed manual gearbox, which will be offered in options of 4 Wheel Drive and Rear Wheel Drive. At present, Hyundai plans to only release a diesel version due to its increased practicality in the Indian market. For safety , features like ABS, EBD, four airbags and LED daytime running lamps might be offered with the top-end models

The ix25 is expected to go against the Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and the Mahindra Scorpio. On the basis of size, the Scorpio is the largest at 4456 mm long, 1820 mm wide and 1995 mm high. The Duster is 4315 mm long, 1822 mm wide and 1695 mm high. The Terrano is 4331 mm long, 1822 mm wide and 1671 mm high. In terms of off-road ability, the Duster has a massive 210 mm of ground clearance with the Terrano at 205 mm and the Mahindra at 180 mm. When compared to its chief rivals, the ix25 is the smallest. With respect to engines, the Duster and Terrano have 108 bhp with 245 Nm and 248 Nm of torque respectively, the Scorpio has a 120 bhp engine with 280 Nm of torque. In this aspect the ix25 outguns the Scorpio, which is also the heaviest car of them all. Finally wit respect to price, the Duster retails for 8.3 – 13.5 lac, the Terrano for 10.1 – 12.9 and the Scorpio being the least expensive at 7.9 – 13.5 lac, since it is locally assembled. However Hyundai has plans to locally manufacture the ix25 as well, meaning it could have an estimated price of 8 lac. Once again, Hyundai has put together all the perfect ingredients to get a worthy competitor that should turn into a runaway success.
