Team 4wheelreviews is here to give you weekly auto news in case you missed it in last week. This week has been pretty slow in the Indian auto world if you consider it to the previous week. It actually started with Honda announcing a recall for 2338 units of the Amaze, Brio and the CR-V. Honda has deduced the problem to the baffle plate in the passenger side Airbag inflator. This affects cars manufactured between Sept 2011 and July 2014 and is a worldwide exercise by the company.
Nissan announced a “Special Variant” of the Evlia MPV with quite a few cosmetic changes on the outside as well as the inside. The 1.5-litre K9K motor powered car will get ABS, EBD and dual front airbags on this particular version. The Evalia, although trumped by its competitors, has been holding its fort steadily and with this it might as well catch some bright limelight.
India’s favorite car brand Maruti Suzuki launched the New Swift, which is what they call it but before you get too excited let me tell you, it is nothing more than a facelift. MS has added Push button start to the top end variants along with 15 inch wheels in both the petrol and the diesel variants. The diesel engine has been worked upon in terms of ECU tuning and will now manage to squeeze 25.2 km to the liter!
In the same segment, Hyundai’s latest launch, the Elite i20 has garnered over 40k bookings. The i20 has been a successful brand for the Koreans and we love the all-inclusive package it offers with good reliability, cheap spares and good fuel economy. It might not be the drivers car per-se especially with the light steering wheel but it does not disappoint you on your daily commute or an occasional highway drive.
On the two wheeler side, Harley Davidson kept revving with the launch of three new models: the Breakout, the Street Glide Special and the CVO limited. The CVO is really special and as an auto enthusiast it is good to see HD getting it to the country as there is a market, a very niche market, for such high end hand-crafted motorcycles. If you like the open road and the wind in your face, you obviously have a place for an HD in your heart and with this you now have more options than before. These three bikes also work as options to burn a hole in your wallet.
Tata finally has something to smile about, the response the Zest has received. The sub-4 meter sedan with the Auto transmission is generating quite a buzz. Tata was gonna replicate this with the launch of the Bolt hatch but has seems to run into a few potholes. AutoColumn was the first to report this news when our sources said Tata has pushed the launch date to December (previously supposed to be mid-October). But we feel Tata has done a really good job with the car and this is quite unfortunate for them.
We had also spied the upcoming small hatchback from Tata, project name Kite near Pune. Check out the video here.
Untill next week, keep revving!
