Kawasaki has introduced low budget single cylinder version of Ninja 250 specially for Asian market, they have named this baby as Kawasaki Ninja 250 RR Mono.
Ninja 250 RR Mono will replace Ninja 150RR. The RR Mono is powered by 249 cc engine, capable of producing maximum power of 27.6 hp at 9,700 rps and maximum torque of 26.6 Nm at 8,200 rpm. This new bike is expected to hit top speed of 153 kmph. The engine rests on tube type diamond frame. To ensure better handling heel profile is 110/80/17 and 130/70/17 at the front and rear respectively. Ninja RR has a 11-litre fuel tank and a kerb weight of 151 kgs.
As the quarter litre motorcycle market is widely growing, the whole concept behind RR Mono is to keep the cost low yet churn out more and more power from the single cylinder. The RR mono shares the design architecture from the Ninja 250 R first gen yet the chassis are not identical, RR Mono is 24 kg lighter than Ninja 250R.
Sales of the RR Mono will commence in Indonesia next month and the bike will be locally manufactured there. Kawasaki has big plans for Indian market too, and why not, it is one of the biggest automotive sector in the world. Kawasaki recently launched Z1000, Z800, ZX14R, ZX10R and Ninja 1000 super bikes in India. Kawasaki has pulled up the socks for the real competition in quarter litre motorcycles. Not to forget Indian manufacturers like Hero Motocorp and TVS has already unveiled their quarter litre products at the recent Autoexpo and these products are quite powerful than the RR Mono.
If Kawasaki plans to manufacture this bike in India instead of getting it via CKD route, the bike will be 30% cheaper than Ninja 300. A price tag of sub 2 lakh will work for this bike in India as KTM 390, CBR 250 are already priced under 2 lakh.
