The image we see is KTM 390 Supermoto prototype spied somewhere in Austria, the birth place of Duke. The picture shows an Austrian-registered supermoto prototype in camouflage with a frame and swing-arm identical to that shared by Duke 125, 200 and 390.
If you look closely at the image, the bike wears the same frame, same wheel and also the same ABS module at rear end. Front USD fork got longer travel than Duke 390 and it has to be as its a supermoto. Another difference you can spot on is the swingarm angle, this leads to taller riding height and a bit more ground clearance when compared with Duke 390. There are many parts identical to Duke on Duke supermoto like, mirrors, fearing, handlebar and indicators.
KTM CEO Stefan Pierer has often spoken of the company’s plans with Bajaj Auto revealing Duke platform bikes. It started from Duke 200 and then Duke 390, RC 200, RC390 and enduro too. We also know that RC200 and RC390 are soon coming to India and enduro versions of the same Duke platform is due in 2015. Our friends at VisorDown says that 390 Supermoto will come in 2015. With this new supermoto addition in line, Duke platform is the most modular platform for KTM to derivate new models with few mechanical changes keeping most of the other parts same.
Coming back to RC series of 200 and 390, there wont be any mechanical changes in the heart of these bikes. KTM RC200 will have the same power as that of Duke 200, 25bhp and RC 390 will have the same as Duke 390, 43bhp. KTM will showcase these bikes at the upcoming AutoExpo in India on 5th Feb 2014.
