Mahindra & Mahindra has always been known for SUVs that work even in rural India or as few may call it off-road terrain. Continuing to expand on this idea, it collaborated with one Makrand Patil to design a new concept SUV. Mr. Makrand Patil is an IED (Istituto Europeo di Design) Turin graduate and hopes to compete in the big league of car designers in the coming years.
Talking about the Komodo, he says :
“What I present is an SUV built for the Indian Market. The user could be anyone from a young to a mid-age individual who is in his own business or could just be a son, a family guy to a sport enthusiast.”
“The built of the car is big, strong, rugged and luxurious at the same time. Perfect for the Indian terrain. The vehicle can be used anywhere form silky smooth highways to steep gradients, big drops and deep water. Focusing more on its off-roading abilities, a true 4×4 vehicle that a whole family can enjoy.”
“This SUV has been designed considering most of the brand attributes of Mahindra. The brand sets a benchmark of Capability, Authenticity in design and function. It specializes in Durability and Reliability for the Indian market having a justified evolution.”
“My dream was to combine the authentic Mahindra DNA with its more evolved ones and make the Ultimate Mahindra. The Mahindra KOMODO.”
He also stated that since this is the SUV for the future it will be powered by a diesel hybrid. We are used to aggressive designs from M&M but this is out of the ball park by miles. M&M always focused more on the usability factor of their vehicles rather than good design and that is the reason why its vehicles look dated and rather odd.
The Komodo looks more like a Dakar rally car than an everyday SUV, but Makrand confirms it was designed with the Indian road conditions in mind. Being an Indian himself he could quickly adopt the Indian mentality and work towards it. It took four months of very long hours for him to get here, starting with understanding the M&M brand and working his way up to the clay model.
If only we had any influence on asking M&M to give this the green signal! Please Mahindra we need you working full time on getting this on the road as soon as possible.
