Mahindra unveiled the introductory sketches of the upcoming sub-4 meter SUV to be launched in September this year. It will be called TUV 3oo (3 double o). First things first. This is not a replacement to the Bolero as speculated. The design is inspired by a military tank which has been morphed into 5 seater SUV for urban use.
TUV3oo was designed inhouse at the Kandivali design studio along with inputs from Pininfarina, the legendary company who has designed for Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, GM. Mahindra is in talks to acquire Pininfarina currently.
The TUV300 will receive an all new diesel engine that will be based on the current mHawK architecture. The motor will be developed at Mahindra Research Park in Chennai.
The TUV300 is still under development and more details, along with the price, will be revealed in September 2015. Mahindra is also working on a left hand drive version of the TUV300 to export the compact SUV to overseas markets. The TUV300 will not receive a 4WD version initially.
The Mahidra TUV300 will lock horn against compact SUVs such as the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster. Stay tuned for more on this ‘tough and stylish’ SUV.
