Maruti Suzuki has brought automatic transmission to the masses in India through the Celerio and followed it up with a lot of other models. Now, the blue eyed boy, Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been equipped with the Automated Manual Transmission(AMT) and is all set for a Diwali launch.
Gaadiwadi snapped these pictured of the AMT featured WagonR at dealer yard. The WagonR and the WagonR Stingray will get the updated option and will cost a premium of about Rs 35,000. Wagon R AMT will continue to draw power from the same 1.0L K-Series petrol engine, which churns out a power of 68PS and 90Nm torque. In the AMT model, the transmission will be handled by Magneti Marelli’s five-speed transmission.
The car gets body coloured bumpers, mirrors and dorr handles, front and rear power windows, a 2-DIN music system with USB, AUX, MP3, CD player, AM and FM, front and rear fog lamps, roof rails, body coloured bumpers, front and rear power windows, engine immobilizer, child door lock, electrically adjustable ORVMs, cup holders, fabric seats, air conditioning with heater, anti-glare mirrors,, speed sensing door locks, ABS and dual airbags.
The Magneti Marelli’s AMT used in the Maruti Suzuki WagonR will be the same as the one used in Alto K10 and Celerio which is manufactured at Manesar plant, built specifically to manufacture the transmission which are also provided to Tata Motors. The WagonR competes against the Datsun Go, Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i10, Mahindra Verito Vibe.
It starts at INR 3.71 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and goes up to INR 4.69 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The company will aslo introduce a 7-seater MPV based on the WagonR in the coming months. It remains to be seen if the cmpany will add the optional safety features like airbags and ABS to the WagonR since the same has been made available to the Celerio.
