Maruti Baleno is expected to get a more powerful 200 DDiS diesel engine that produces 15 HP and 10 NM of torque more than the existing 190 DDiS engine.
Maruti Suzuki launched an all new premium hatchback in the month of October. The Maruti Baleno was meant for people who wanted to stick with the Maruti Suzuki badge while buying something more premium than the Swift. The hatchback like almost all of the Maruti cars was loved by the buyers. It registered a booking of 5,000 vehicles in the first week itself and the count has gone up to 40,000 units by now.

However, the diesel variant of the sporty hatchback lacked the ‘SPORT’ in it. It was powered by the 1.3-liter, Fiat sourced, 190 DDiS which produced just 74 HP and 190 NM of torque. However, the automaker seems to be planning to solve this problem too. Autocar India reports that Maruti Suzuki is planning to offer a more a powerful 200 DDiS engine that produces 15 HP and 10 NM of torque more than the 190 DDiS.
The 1.3-liter, 200 DDiS produces 88.5 HP @ 4,000 RPM and a peak torque of 200 NM @ 1,750 RPM using a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT). The engine will be continued to be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. This more powerful engine already powers the S-Cross, Ciaz and Ertiga. The country’s largest automaker is also expected to equip the more powerful Maruti Baleno with its mild hybrid SHVS tech already present on the Ciaz and Ertiga.
The Maruti Baleno was launched to take on the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, VW Polo, Honda Jazz and others in the segment. It was priced very aggressively at a starting price of INR 4.99 lakhs for the base Stigma variant. The prices go up to INR 8.11 lakhs for the top-end variant. The more powerful diesel variant is expected to be priced above this top-end.
