Maruti has revealed a new micro SUV concept called the Future S. The company has not yet announced production plans for the vehicle yet, but previous information indicates that it will go into production next year as the most affordable SUV from India’s largest car maker. The Future-S concept is more of a design study from Maruti that gives us an idea of what the new micro SUV will look like.
Styling? In one word, Funky! The Future-S seems to be designed totally to appeal to younger buyers. Right from the bubble windshield in the front to white and red accents as the colour theme on the interiors, the car has funky touches all around. It rides on large wheels and also gets flared wheel arches and an interesting design detail are the suicide doors. Let’s hope it makes it to production as it offers a very convenient way of getting in and out of the car.
The Future S is expected to use the HEARTECT platform borrowed from the Swift-Dzire-Baleno. This is a lightweight platform that is expected to give the car impressive gains in fuel efficiency and performance. Since the world is shifting to hybrid and electrics, we anticipate that the Future S will be designed keeping a hybrid/electric future in mind. Both manual and AMT options are likely on the new micro SUV’s production versions.
High ground clearance will be a standard feature, and the vehicle is also expected to get 15 inch tyres to make give it the stance of an SUV. The Future S will sit beneath the Vitara Brezza in terms of price and positioning. Expect a starting price tag of well under Rs. 6 lakhs. Maruti will be hoping that B-Segment hatchback buyers looking for an SUV will opt for the Future S.
