Maruti Suzuki Celerio has turned stones for the company with their automatic transmission variant of the Celerio being in huge demand. The first cheapest automatic car in India has a never ending waiting list. The list increased with the CNG variant being launched recently. Now the company has plans to launch a diesel variant next year. Diesel variant would be priced a tad more but the running cost will be far less than the petrol variant.
Rumors are that the new diesel variant will give a mileage of 27 kmpl. The best mileage car in this league of diesel engine is of the Honda City, giving a total mileage of 26 kmpl which is ARAI certified.Maruti is developing a 800 cc turbo diesel engine for its pick trucks and this is the same engine which is said to be used in the Celerio diesel. The codename for this pick up truck assembly is Y9T and they will be available in CNG and diesel variants. 800cc diesel engine being developed will have a twin cylinder configuration.
With no confirm news if the diesel variant will be available with an automatic transmission or not, however the diesel engine is claimed to give a total torque of 100 – 120 Nm which would be sufficient to drive this hatchback in the city traffic. With the automatic transmission the car would be very efficient. The diesel engine would obviously cost the customer more, to be exact, a diesel variant would cost 60,000 to 70,000 rs more than the petrol variant and if at all an automatic transmission is included the car would be priced even higher. Having more drawbacks like engine noise, diesel prices and a few advantages it would be difficult for Maruti to lure more clients when compared with the other models of other manufacturers in the same section.
