Maruti Suzuki Vitara has been spied in the company’s premises by a member of the Team Fiat Moto Club. The cars (3 of them can be seen in the image) were brought in India recently and were spied without any camouflage. However, the cars are possibly here to be showcased at the Delhi Auto Show 2016 which is scheduled to be held in February next year.
The compact SUV segment has become very popular among the Indian buyers and its popularity is increasing day-by-day. Indians were fascinated by the the huge SUV’s from the very beginning but the increasing traffic made it difficult to live with full sized utility vehicles. But, the buyers soon got a very convenient alternative in the form of compact SUV’s which does not sacrifice their love for the size of SUV’s while washing off the errors of full sized utility vehicles. As a result, the segment started growing.
However, due to some reasons the country’s largest automobile company Maruti Suzuki India Limited has still not entered the segment. But, no doubt the company will not miss such an opportunity. MSIL is expected to make its debut with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara. The company has officially announced that the Vitara will be showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016. But, the company has never discussed the launch of Vitara in the Indian market. The Delhi Auto Expo 2016 can prove as a ground for MSIL to find out the customer’s response and plan the launch accordingly.
The compact SUV in international market is offered with two engine options, namely – a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder, petrol engine producing 120 HP and 156 NM of peak torque and a 1.6-liter, diesel engine producing 120 HP and 320 NM of peak torque. However, the Indian version is expected to come with a 1.4-liter VVT petrol or a 1.3-liter Fiat multi-jet diesel engine and now that the S-Cross has already brought with it the 1.6-liter diesel, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara can borrow that too. The compact SUV if launched at a correct price will take on the likes of Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and the others.
