Finally, the biggest festival in India is here and things are heating up in the automotive sector. Maruti Suzuki, the biggest of all car companies by volume is certainly not lagging behind. The company has decided to bring in AMT to the Maruti Suzuki WagonR and the car was caught on camera by the folks at Autocar India.
The WangonR becomes the third model after Celerio and Alto K10 to get Auto Gear Shift system. The same Automated Manual Transmission used in the other two cars will be seen on this one, which has been sourced from Magneti Marelli. There is no update on the car except for the AMT option. The car remains same cosmetically.
The WagonR hatchback is 998 cc three-cylinder K10B all-aluminium engine that produces 68 PS at 6,200 rpm and 90 Nm at 3,500. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and power is sent to the front wheels. The optional 5-speed AMT transmission will come at a premium of around Rs 35,000. ARAI figures for mileage are 20.5 km/l.
The car gets a 2-DIN music system with USB, AUX, MP3, engine immobilizer, child door lock, speed sensing door locks, CD player, body coloured bumpers, mirrors and door handles, cup holders, fabric seats, air conditioning with heater,AM and FM, front and rear fog lamps, roof rails, front and rear power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, anti-glare mirrors.
It remains to be seen if the company will make safety features like ABS and Airbags optionally available on the car, like it has done on the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. Similarly, it remains to be seen whether the AMT comes to all variants or just the VXi variant. The VXi version of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R gets a keyless entry system, foglamps on the front, electrically adjustable mirrors, a music system, a rear wiper and washer, a power steering with tilt adjustment, power windows.
