Mercedes plans to launch a face-lifted version of the Mercedes G-Class in 2016

A true legend- Introduced way back in 1979, the Mercedes G-Class was truly a class apart with its all-terrain credibility and powerful engines, it attracted wealthy farmers and Russian entrepreneurs along with its military use. The G-Class is sold in two trims: the 461 series for military use and the 463 series for individuals who needed power and class under a single roof. Honoring its legacy Mercedes decided to launch a face-lifted version of the Mercedes G-Class in 2016, which will leave a mark for another decade till 2027.

The 2016 Mercedes G-Class facelift (codname W463) will forsee significant modifications to the exterior and interior of the current G-Class along with newer engines which will power this magnificent beast. On the exterior the 2016 Mercedes G-Class will use the same boxy frame, which will be built on a new aluminum chassis, which will help the G-Class to shed almost 375 kgs. The 2016 G-Class  will be widened by 100mm to 1860mm and the roof will be lowered along with minor drag-cutting modifications to keep the car stable. The other features will be, newly designed adaptive LED headlamps, miniature cameras fitted to feed the latest generation assistance systems, blocked off front air-intakes and a Distronic Plus radar eye, infused behind the three-pointed star, sum up the changes made to the exterior.

The interior shall also be re-modified, with the extra width provided, Mercedes will design a new dashboard and instrument panel, which will feature a new steering wheel, prominent diff lock push- buttons, high-mounted passenger grab handle, a larger in-dash touch screen monitor and re-arranged center stack ergonomics, which will give a modern and classy look to the beast.

Apart from all the Exterior and interior changes, the 2016 Mercedes G-Class shall also witness newer, powerful, refined and efficient engines. Mercedes may loose the optional V12 engine and replace it with two new 6-cylinder units- a 3.0 liter, straight six petrol engine, which will produce 367 BHP and 480 Nm of torque and a 2.9 liter, diesel engine, with 313 BHP of power and 480 Nm of torque. For those G-Class enthusiasts, Mercedes offers the V8 trims- a 4.0 liter, twin-turbo V8 engine, which produces approximately 460 BHP of power and a top-of-the line 5.5 liter, V8 G63 AMG engine, which churns out 571 BHP and 800 Nm of torque.

Mercedes has really stepped it up to redesign the G-Class beast into a more powerful yet luxurious SUV. With the luxury SUV segment growing, Mercedes plans to launch the 2016 Mercedes G-CLass right in the heart of the competition pitching it against the Range Rover and the upcoming Bently Falcon. We hope that the new 2016 Mercedes G-Class facelift will carry on the G-Class legacy.
