Love the Honda Jazz or the Hyundai i20? But aren’t convinced about the maintanence cost, the resale value amongst other things? Prefer the Maruti Suzuki tag more than the others? Here’s good news for all you then. Suzuki’s upcoming hatch which was code named YRA, has been christened ‘Baleno’ for the international market. It will be debuting at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2015) which begins on September 15.
This car will come to India sometime later and will have a different name since Baleno was a sedan by the same manufacturer some years back. It had to be killed in 2007 due to poor sales. Also, Maruti would’nt want to associate a premium hatch with a not so successful model. Suzuki has shown a teaser of the Europe spec Baleno. The car will be made in India and exported to Europe and Japan.
The Euro-spec model will get the new 1.0-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline ‘Boosterjet’ engine, that is tuned for fuel-efficiency. Suzuki has not given much detail on the specifications apart from stating that, this engine inside a lightweight body will give rise to dynamic performance.
“The layout has been optimized and various technologies (are) used to reduce weight in order to meet the rigorous size and weight requirements specific to compact cars,” it said in its press release.
In all probability, ‘Boosterjet’ engine will not make it to India. We might get to see the 1.3 litre and the 1.6 litre engines doing duty in India.
The car will make its India debut early next year in India. So we have the best ‘value for money’ competition coming for the Jazz and i20 soon!!
