New Tata Sumo Grande to be called Movus !

Tata Motors is going to rename all the vehicles and have new identity for its upcoming vehicles to erase the negative perception of it’s name. By now, we know Tata Vista based hatchback (Falcon 4) will get a new name and it won’t carry ‘Indica’ moniker. Tata Motors is making a facelift model of its very un-successful Sumo Grande MUV and it will be called as Tata Movus (Move- Us).

The Sumo tag to Grande was giving a negative sentiment because Tata Sumo model is mainly famous in the taxi/cab market. Sumo Grande is positioned higher than Tata Sumo and to get the proper market positioning, the company is moving out ‘Sumo’ from Grande and trying to give it a completely new identity. Tata Movus will compete with the other successful MPVs sold in India, Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo.

We also have information that Tata Motors will not only rename the vehicle, but the quality and reliability for the long-term use of the vehicle are also being taken into consideration in the facelift model. Here are the few points that will come with Tata Movus

Talking about reliability of Tata Movus, the MPV will now get

  • Improved timing belt for long term durability
  • Redesign of Clutch master cylinder to reduce clutching efforts
  • Clutch life increased to 1,00,000 kms
  • 2.2 litre DICOR motor with 1,00,000 kms warranty as standard
  • New Diesel filter design to improve fuel injectors life

Tata Movus will also get a 3 liter CR4 engine option in the entry-level variant to take on Mahindra Bolero. The base variant will get 15 inch rims and a bit thinner tires than 16 inch rim combination, this is to reduce the road load because of friction. CR4 engine runs very smooth and has fuel efficiency of 15.3 kmpl on Sumo Gold. Tata Motors is trying to target two vehicles-Mahindra Bolero and Xylo with one Movus. The base variant of Movus will take on likes of Mahindra Bolero that is the best selling vehicle from Mahindra and consistently doing 6000+ units per month. The other variants of Movus will target Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo for MPV market.
