While there’s a section of industry followers who believe that the Mitsubshi Lancer is fast approaching the end of the road, there’s an even larger number of car fanatics and industry watchers who believe that there’s indeed a next generation Mitsubishi Lancer that is headed to us in the near future. Based on the dozens of speculations on the next generation Mitsubishi Lancer, Theophilus Chin has recently come up with two speculative images of the next gen Lancer. It is being said that for the speculated model, Mitsubishi might just look up at Renault-Nissan to borrow an existing platform. No surprise then that the car in the renderings are based on the Nissan Sentra (mentioned by the artist).
The rendering shows that the front-end of the next Lancer could sport a dual-slat grille, a massive airdam and overall, an aggressive design. In the side profile, the car in the rendering gets a slightly sloping roofline, a rather European design for the greenhouse, and overall, it looks understated, without being really dull. The sporty wheels and the pronounced wheel arches do give an athletic touch to the side profile. At the rear, the car gets a lip-spoiler for its bootlid, an interesting arrangement of the taillamp cluster and a sharp design overall.
The Lancer is a well recognized car brand in India. Here, in our country, Mitsubishi has sold two generations of its popular sedan. However, in 2013, the Cedia, which is nothing but a re-badged eighth generation of the Lancer, was discontinued in the country, with Mitsubishi India announcing that it plans to focus solely on the SUV-segment of India’s car market.
It remains to be seen what’s in store for the Lancer brand, and if at all it will ever see a revival here, in India.
