The all-new Passat would be unveiled over the internet on 3rd July

Volkswagen recently revealed a teaser image of their upcoming updated Passat. Volkswagen has been very tight-lipped about their sedans feature and specifications so far, but from under the draped veil it is clearly visible that the new car would be getting updated headlights with LEDs. The new car appears to have a curved roofline towards the back. From the teaser it is also evident that the new car would have a more sporty stance courtesy of the flared wheel arches and a larger grill. While the overall dimensions of the car are reported to be smaller than the current generation models, the car would have better legroom and interior space and boot volume.

The new Passat, as most other cars in the Volkswagen family would be based on their MQB platform that in India is similar to the new Octavia and the upcoming A3 Sedan. the great flexibility of the platform combined with use of better materials would allow the car to carry up to 85kgs less weight that its current generation model.

Volkswagen is yet to confirm any major specifications for the new Passat, although they have confirmed that the new model would come with a 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel motor pumping out 237bhp and 369lb ft of torque mated to a new 7-speed DSG transmission. Internationally, the car would also get the Side Assist, Traffic Assist and emergency Brake Assist features although it would be sometime before we could judge if these features would be available on the indian version as standard. The new Passat is set to be unveiled over the internet on the 3rd of July while we would have to wait to see the actual car in flesh till its official unveiling at the 2014 Paris Auto Show in October.

Internationally it is rumoured that the new Passat would also feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain where the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine would work in sync with a 75KW electric motor, giving the car a combined power output of 204bhp
