Back in July 2014, Team AutoColumn confirmed you that Toyota has confirmed Vios in India. By now we have seen enough of spy images of car being tested on Indian soil. We are back again with another big news about Vios. The car will start its production in India in Sept 2017. Our Sources also confirm that keyless entry and start stop function will be standard across all variants of Vios. Expect the launch of Vios in festive season of 2017, soon after the start of production.
The Vios will compete with the segment leader Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Volkswagen Vento. The C2 segment is fourth popular segment in India after B2 segment, C1 segment and utility vehicle segment. Toyota cars are known for their reliability. The C2 segment is increasingly dominated by Honda after launch of new Honda City with the diesel engine option, which previously was dominated by the Hyundai’s Verna followed by the Skoda Rapid.
Although a bit late this is a good move by Toyota India. The car is already sold in the Thai market as the sedan version of the famous Yaris hatchback. The model is very popular in the Thai market and other markets just because of its looks. The Vios follows Toyota’s new design philosophy and has sharp body lines, a sleeker roof profile and bootlid spoiler (similar to Verna) which give it a strong road presence.
Projector headlamp, LED tail lamp and DRLs will give the Vios a competitive exterior in terms of its offerings. In dimensions , the car measures more than 4.4 meters to have good rear legroom and tall enough for easy ingress/egress suitable for all ages. As per our sources, Vios will have plenty features which will be segment’s first offerings.
