Something’s you should never do while driving in an Automatic transmission vehicle.

Nowadays most of the vehicles have automatic transmission systems and they prove to be of great help. A vehicle with automatic transmission lets you relax behind the wheels and is hell comforting as compared that to vehicles with manual transmission. It lets you have coffee while driving or also serving yourself with a Frankie; you can also smoke or even let your fingers dance to the beat of the music playing in the car. Automatic transmissions were a dream for car lovers in old times and now that the dream has come true it can never be better than this.

Although the automatic transmission makes it so much easier for you, there are some people who get things wrong even while operating this. Here are something’s you should avoid doing while driving a vehicle with automatic transmission.

Never put your vehicle into neutral at signals:

When you are in a vehicle which is suited with automatic transmission then never put your vehicle in neutral gear at signals. This proves to be a very unhealthy habit for the vehicle. When you stop your vehicle at the red-light and shift your mode to neutral from driving mode. People do it mostly to save fuel but let I assure you it doesn’t. Actually, your car consumes the same amount of fuel, even if you keep it in drive mode r in the neutral gear.

On the contrary, if you don’t shift the driving mode to neutral, the vehicle stands ready to drive anytime and hence doesn’t burn any extra fuel when it leaves the red light. On the other hand, if you put your vehicle on neutral and shift it back to neutral after the green light, the vehicle has to prepare for the launch and also the transmission needs to catch-up with the revving engine. This causes the vehicle to burn more fuel, and hence you end up consuming more fuel by putting your vehicle in neutral at the red light.

Never put your vehicle in reverse without stopping :

People tend to have a habit of being in the drive mode and immediately to shift the vehicle into reverse mode without stopping the vehicle. This might prove to be cool in front of your buddies or just to flaunt your driving skills, but it might cause a great damage to the vehicles transmission line. When you put your vehicle directly in the reverse gear from drive mode then the transmission forces your vehicle to stop and not the breaks, this causes a great wear of the transmission belt.

Even if you are not a car guy, you should know that the breaks and break liners are cheaper as well as easier to replace them than replacing the transmission of the vehicle. Hence always stop before shifting your vehicle in the reverse gear.

Shifting from neutral to driving modes on slopes:

For every car owner who has an experience of riding bikes in the past does this as an initiative to save fuel and some do it as a hobby. Shifting your vehicle in the neutral gear at slopes might not prove to be a good practice for the car. When the slope is descending and the vehicle’s speed begins to drop, the driver shifts the vehicle again into driving mode.

This can prove to be of great damage to the vehicle. While you are in neutral gear the vehicles transmission and clutch plate in disengaged, when you suddenly put the vehicle in driving mode then the disengaged clutch plate and the vehicle’s transmission need to match the speed of vehicle it is having. This causes a long amount of wear to the vehicles transmission line, at such situations the vehicle might reach its max rpm level or It can even drift due to unmatched revving limits.

Revving the vehicle in neutral gears :

Some people have the tendency to rev the vehicle up unnecessarily every morning just to make sure the engine is warm enough. If you are smart enough to buy a vehicle with automatic transmission then please let the vehicle decide for itself. There is no point in over revving the engine in neutral gears at higher rpm’s just to make sure the engine is warm. It causes a great damage to the engine; it also sometimes results in smoking up the engine unnecessarily. Automatic transmissions take care of the cars idling and make It warm enough for you to drive it for the whole day within seconds.

Unnecessary use of the parking mode:

Over smart people put their vehicles on parking mode a signals or even in panic situations. There is no need to do this. The parking mode jams the gears and the cams of the vehicle. People often put their vehicles in parking mode on steep slopes or in emergency situations, this might a great damage to you cars gears or to the transmission line. Shifting immediately from parking mode to driving mode might result in heavy wear and tear if vehicles gears.

Every vehicle, when parked in parking mode, has its jammers over the gears and it takes some time to disengaged the jammers from the gears and to put the vehicle in driving mode again. Every vehicle requires specific time before shifting from particular driving modes, that is why when the vehicle is put back to the driving mode from parking mode, make sure you give it required time before you turn on the engine.
