Maruti SX-4 designs were borrowed from Fiats hot selling car named Sedici. Fiat was doing well in the European Market. SX-4 was a hit at the beginning but strong competition from Hyundai and Honda at that moment did not let it do great sales. Then SX-4 started struggling even in the Indian market mainly due to the brand value of Maruti as compared to Honda, Fiat and Skoda.
Unveiled at the 2013 Beijing Motor Show, Maruti Suzuki showcased Suzuki Alivio (Ciaz in India) at the 2014 Auto Expo in India. The fantastic looking concept looked mixed of Hyundai Verna, BMW 3 series and latest generation Honda City. Maruti Suzuki has big plans for this hot looking sedan that will replace SX4 in the company’s portfolio. The production model has been spotted undisguised in China.
The production version is very similar to the prototype showcased at Auto Expo. Sporty flared headlights and a rectangular chrome grille gel nicely along with design lines. Ciaz is 4545 mm in length, 1730 mm in width and 1475 mm height, It’ll be one of the longest sedan in its segment.
At rear the design will remind you of new Honda city, though there has been a lot of debate. The rear styling is inspired from authentics concept which was showcased long back even before the unveiling of new City. Ciaz will share interior component with Maruti’s existing model like Ertiga and Dzie to keep the cost under control.
Ciaz is expected to be powered with tried-and-tested Fiat Multijet Common-rail diesel power plant churning out 90 Ps of power and 1.6-litre petrol unit that will produce around 118 PS of power.
Maruti-Suzuki is expected to launch Ciaz in the last quarter of 2014, as big competitors in the C-segment like new Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Renault Scala and others await for it.
