The buzz, going around for a long time now, about Tata Motors developing a small car, smaller than Bolt and bigger than Nano has finally found some roots now that spy pictures are out.
The project codename is Kite (previously named Eagle) is based on Tata X0 platform. Tata Motors has just begun testing the Kite hatchback on Indian roads and recently it was spotted just outside Tata Motors’ Pimpri factory.
There are chances of Tata introducing two vehicles out of same platform. The Tata Kite is expected to be powered with the newly developed Revtron engine; there are also chances of Tata developing a 1.0 liter Revotron series for upcoming small cars.
Tata Motors is also working on a Revotron-like diesel mill for their car range. This would likely mean a small capacity, 1.2 to 1.4-litre diesel engine that could produce about 60-70 bhp and will possibly feature both the 5-speed manual and the 5-speed AMT transmission options as well.
We expect Tata to showcase Kite at 2015 Autoexpo in production version and to be launched either in the second-half of 2015 or early part of 2016, competitive pricing will be a big factor in defining the future of this small car. We can expect the Kite in the price bracket of 2.8 to 4.5 lakh.
Tata Motors has been struggling for quite a while now so the Kite has a lot riding on its shoulders. Tata is leaving no stone unturned to make sure the car is as close to perfection as possible which will enable it to garner huge numbers in terms of sales.
