Its raining compact SUV’s in India, newly most loved segment. Tata Motors is one of the automotive giants in India like SUV giany Mahindra and Mahindra. Till now Tata Motors made full size SUVs and MPVs, but the segment of compact SUVs is hinting the company to try their luck after the success of Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport. Not to forget, it was Tata Motors that brought the first sub 4-meter vehicles in Indian market, Indigo CS and then later market was acquired by other OEMs.
Tata has been teasing their all new design status “FALCON” since long time on the web. A new sub-4 meter sedan and compact SUV is on the cards. New sub 4-meter compact SUV from Tata will be called Nexon, rumours are to be believed that it will carry the similar design ergonomics as that of Aria and some design shapes from Xenon.
Nexon will compete with popular Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster and Nissan Tarreno. Sadly Tata will be just unveiling the concept, actual production will hit the market by 2015, end of second quarter. Power outputs are likely to be under 100bhp and possibly 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol mill will find its way in the compact SUV with 1 liter DICOR 3 cylinder diesel engine.
Tata has announced the launch of its new Revotron petrol engine and revealed the first motor, an all new 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged, intercooled, multi-point fuel injected (MPFI) petrol motor – the first of its kind to be developed in India. Nexon is likely to be showcased at the Geneva show as well in March 2014.
As per AutoColumn sources, Tata Motors will bring in the compact SUV in India by 2nd quarter of 2015 and the company plans to sell close to 5000 units in 2015 which will be followed by 20,000 units for 2016. The new 4 door compact SUV is code-named as ‘B-CUV’ and will use the advanced version of T4 platform. The regular T4 platform was used for Tata Vista, Manza vehicles.
