Skoda unveiled its supermini, the 2015 Skoda Fabia, months before its public debut at the 2014 Paris Motor show in October. The 2015 Skoda Fabia shall be up for sale in Europe after its official debut at the Paris Motor show this year. Due to the failure of the 2013 Skoda Fabia, the next-gen Skoda Fabia might not see the light of the Indian mini car market, as the company is mainly focused to strengthen its position in the Indian market with the Skoda Rapid and its bigger and luxurious siblings.
The 2015 Skoda Fabia will be based on the newly designed PQ26 platform developed by the Volkswagen Group, which is re-engineered to support the latest engines, transmission systems and infotainment kit, along with improved handling and safety. The new Skoda Fabia will be 30mm lower in hight and 90mm wider, than the current model. This will help provide the new Fabia with more cabin space and better body design giving it a better corporate and elegant look.
There are a few engine options that Skoda may offer in the international markets: an entry-level 1.0 liter, three-cylinder engine, which is said to have 17% better fuel efficiency than the current model and above that is a 1.2 liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder engine tuned between 89 BHP and 109 BHP depending on the market.
As seen in the official images, the new Skoda Fabia’s front and rear design are inspired from the newly launched Skoda Rapid and Octavia models, which features a well-defined and characteristic bodywork, the new Skoda badging, a contoured bonnet, chrome-framed front grille, alloy wheels, angular headlamps and lower bumper fog lamps which give it an upmarket look. The interiors of the Skoda’s supermini, claims to offer a high level of individualization to add that premium feel to the car.
After a two-week long shutdown at Skoda’s production facilities in the Czech Republic, for maintenance and refurbishment of the assembly line and paint shop, Skoda is all set to roll out the new Skoda Fabia which will enter into production by the end of August. The new Fabia will be Skoda’s pick during the Paris Motor Show and we hope that, if and when the 2015 Skoda Fabia comes to India, it shall be ready to face its rivals the VW Polo, Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz head-on.
