Toyota Kirloskar Motors has started accepting bookings for it next release, the Etios Cross. The customer needs to pay INR 50,000 to book the car at Toyota dealerships. The company showcased the Etios Cross at the 2014 Auto Expo in the first week of Feb and announced that the car will be launched in may 2014.
The car will be unveiled with a new tag line: Born with Attitude which signifies its ruggedness. This will be Toyotas first offering this year and will compete with the Fiat Punto Avventura and the Cross Polo from VW.
The dimensions of the car measure 3,895 mm x 1,735 mm x 1,555 mm (L x W x B) to avail the excise benefits for sub – 4 meter cars.
The engine options on the car are:
- 1.5L Petrol that develops 90 PS @ 5600 rpm
- 1.2L Petrol that develops 80 PS @ 5600 rpm
- 1.4L Diesel that develops 68 PS @ 3800 rpm
Toyota will rely heavily on the diesel to sell in large numbers but will also make sure the petrol variant is exciting enough so as to keep the petrol/diesel balance of the company steady. Muscular body kit, bigger tyres with a new alloy wheel design make the car look aggressive and ready to take on anything you throw at it. Although not much of a looker, it surely sends its message across clearly to avoid messing with it.
The interiors will feature minor changes and will be available in glossy black finish to match the exterior. We expect Toyota to launch the Etios Cross somewhere around INR 6.5 lakhs with the top of the line petrol V variant will be priced about INR 80,000 over the base model. The standard features on the Etios Cross V are Dual Airbags, integrated audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and on the exterior there will be Etios Cross badges on the side and boot lid.
Toyota hasn`t been up to the mark in terms of sales recently as the demand for its Corolla Altis declined. But it is the company`s own fault as they did not launch a refreshed version to entice buyers. In a growing market like India you need to upgrade your car after regular intervals to draw in more buyers. Toyota finally got the message and will also launch the new Altis soon.
Lets hope this is the car which will start Toyotas climb back to number 1 slot in car sales world wide.
