TVS-BMW product plans for India revealed. Ever since the German automotive manufacturer BMW and TVS have joined hand, there has been a fuss about what would be the outcome of this unique combination. TVS has been silent about the product line up ever since the tie-up, but work is under progress and auto enthusiast will soon witness the first product by the second half of the next year’s calendar. TVS will make investment of Rs 142 crore while the development and testing cost of the motorcycles would be borne by BMW Motorrad.
Products will be manufactured across TVS plants under strict quality control. It is expected that the motorcycles developed under this collaboration will be manufactured in two variants, one for BMW to export and sell in African, Asian and Latin American markets. First product from TVS Motor Company and BMW Motorrad will be a 350 cc bike, this bike will be an on-off roader, a Supermoto capable of taking all obstacles yet comfortable enough to take it to office as well. Another model will be 500cc Roadster inspired by R1200R, Roadster will be a naked touring motorcycle, this Roadster will be head on head competition to Bajaj Pulsar 400CS.
TVS showcased Draken-X21 concept at Auto Expo 2014, a 250cc naked street bike. Surprisingly Draken is designed and developed by TVS itself. RTR 180 is the highest capacity motorcycle offered by TVS, with BMW technology TVS will develop 500cc motorcycles. 250-600 cc motorcycles is emerging category in the Indian automotive market, hope this collaboration will benefit Indian auto enthusiast. The joining venture will help BMW to manufacture below 600cc bikes at a low cost in India and TVS will get aid in technology from BMW. There are reports on interweb that BMW already sent 4 bikes to TVS for testing purpose.
