Volkswagen has introduced two new engines at the Vienna Motor Symposium. The two engines include
- a 6.0 liter W12
- a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder
Details on the 6.0 liter W12 engine
VW has kept the twin-turbo charging and the W layout of its trusted large capacity engine yet churned out a new engine with multi-point fuel injection combined with direct injection.
The engine encompasses cylinder deactivation, a larger cooling system, Start-stop system for fuel saving. The internals of the engine have a layer of thermal spray for better performance.
The engine produces 600 bhp @ 6,000 rpm and 664 lb.ft of torque from 1,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm.
VW will employ this monster of an engine in the next generation Audi A8, their own Phaeton. Bentley`s upcoming SUV,the Bentyaga, will also use this engine along with a switchable fuel-pump for off-road use.
Details on the 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine
This new TSi engine is based on the present 1.0 liter ngine which is used in the European spec VW Polo. The derived engine produces 272 PS of max power and 199 lb.ft of torque. A monoscroll turbocharger and an e-booster system help the engine squeeze out all the power it has.
