Audi to launch 2014 A3 sedan with 1.8L petrol and 2.0L diesel power plants. As per our close sources at ARAI, Audi India has homologated 2 variants of 2014 Audi A3. Petrol one is 1.8 TFSI and Diesel mill is a 2.0 TDI. Audi A3 will be placed below A4 luxury sedan and will compete with Mercedes CLA sedan and BMW 2 series. Derived from Audi A3 sports back, A3 will embark new segment in Indian Automotive industry as premium small sedans.
In the international market Audi A3 is available in three engine options 1.4-litre TFSI and 1.8-litre TFSi lead the petrol contingent and a 2.0-litre TDI Diesel. However Audi India has decided to launch A3 in only two variants i.e 1.8 liter Petrol and 2.0 liter diesel.
1.8L TFSi (Turbo fuel stratified injection) churns out 170 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre TDI mill churns out of 141bhp and 320Nm. Both the engines will power the front wheels via seven-speed S-tronic dual clutch transmission, making it the first Audi to be produced without using Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system to avoid high pricing. There are also chances of Audi to offer A3 with a manual gearbox as they have earlier done with Q3S.
A3 lengths 24cm shorter than the A4, there are chances of you to mistake the A3 with A4 as both sedans look similar at the front. The boot space is 425 liters. A3 is the first production car to hit the streets with a built-in 4G\LTE data connection. The car benefits from this data connection for Google Earth integration with navigation, online destination search, and built-in apps.
Audi A3 is expected to be launched in the Indian market in the last quarter of this year. 2014 Audi A3 will come via CKD (Completely knock down) route in India and it will be assembled at Shendre, Audi’s Aurangabad facility.
